I’m delighted to be showing two gouache paintings at this year’s annual exhibition with the Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolours (RI). The exhibition opens on Thursday 14th April at the Mall Galleries in central London and runs until Sunday 24th April.

You can now view and purchase work from the exhibition on the Mall Galleries website. There is a fantastic selection of work to be seen and it is the first time I’ve submitted work for the society so I’m thrilled to be part of the exhibition. During the first Covid lockdown in 2020 I decided I would like to re-familiarize myself with gouache having not used it since my school days way back in the early 1990’s! I really have enjoyed rediscovering this fabulous medium and whilst it’s not without its challenges (tonal shifts when drying being one particular big one!) I can see many possibilities for exploring ways of working with gouache. I certainly aim to use gouache in parallel with my oil painting and I feel the two mediums can compliment each other well in a number of ways.

The first piece is a beach study of Cromer pier
