David is an award-winning, professional British painter with a passion for painting ‘en plein air’. Working on location, he strives to capture the very essence of that moment and create a personal response to the subject with energy and economy. The work that is completed outdoors also compliments and informs his studio practice where ideas can be explored and developed further.
David has exhibited widely across the UK and has been a full member of the Royal Institute of Oil Painters since being elected in 2012. David has a particular affinity with the sea which provides a constant source of inspiration, particularly the coastlines of Cornwall and North Norfolk. Travels have also taken him further afield to places such as Italy, Spain and Portugal along with many other locations within the UK. David is happy to consider commissions and many of the works shown on the site gallery are available for purchase.
A sunlit cove, windswept estuary or light spilling across open fields in the late evening sun. These are the kinds of subjects that provide constant inspiration in my work. From majestic vistas to more intimate scenes, I aim to observe and capture these moments with integrity and economy.
Many years spent painting plein air have allowed me to to develop ways to respond directly to subjects and capture their essence. The same approach extends into my studio practice where themes can be further developed.
If I can convey the experience of ‘being there’ then I feel I have successfully acheived what I set out to do.
