I’ve recently returned from Cornwall where I tutored three painting workshops at the wonderful Cornwall School of Art near Truro. Two of the workshops were based in the very well equipped studio space which has great facilities that are perfectly suited to delivering workshops. We also had a plein air workshop and whilst conditions were quite overcast with some drizzle we were able to paint out in the local surroundings and fabulous grounds which offer plenty of subjects to work with.

I really enjoyed meeting fellow painting enthusiasts and overall it was a very rewarding experience. I certainly hope to be able to return for more workhops there in the future. Whilst down there I also managed to sneak in a couple of paintings at Porthtowan which is a cracking location to paint from. Even with the absence of sunshine there were some interesting subjects and lovely muted colours to capture. Certainly an interesting challenge to work with the closer tones and subtle colour shifts but it’s always a treat to paint by the sea!
